Develop Mixed Reality Experiences with Magic Leap:
Request for Proposals Open through November 1, 2019

The Office of the Provost, in partnership with UM Information Technology's (UMIT's) Innovate team, is seeking request for proposals (RFP) from faculty and staff who are interested in exploring new applications of mixed reality through the use of Magic Leap that inspire discovery in research, scholarly, and artistic endeavors and/or enhance education at the University of Miami. Applications are open now through November 1, 2019, and can be submitted via the Innovate site at: innovate.it.miami.edu/rfp.

Up to ten projects will be supported during the 2019-2020 academic year. Awardees will receive:

  • use of one Magic Leap One developer kit
  • up to one semester of a graduate student or $10,000

Teams that do not have relevant technical expertise will be provided support through linkage to UMIT and/or faculty in Computer Science (CS) or Computer Engineering (CE). Full details, including award criteria and requirements, are available within the Office of the Provost's RFP document.

Through this RFP, the Office of the Provost aims to inspire faculty and staff from all UM schools, colleges, and departments to create novel applications for Magic Leap devices in a broad variety of areas, including the Magicverse*.

If you have any questions or need help submitting your proposal, please feel free to contact the Innovate team at: innovate@miami.edu.

*One of the goals for the UM and Magic Leap strategic collaboration is for the University of Miami community to work together to build a "Magicverse" — a virtual spatial computing world with an infinite number of "digital layers" and applications. This "Magicverse" was also described as "a digital version of UM that can extend the campus to anywhere in the world."
